Aussie musician Troye Sivan talked to some of the occupants of the Ali Forney Center, a homeless shelter for queer youths in New York City.

The young people talk about the difficulties of life on the street, how they ended up homeless and dispel misconceptions people have.

They face challenges like domestic violence, sexual exploitation and the difficulties of trying to survive in a hostile climate.

According to the Williams Institute, 40% of homeless youths are LGBT. Many end up homeless because their families do not accept their sexuality.
