North Carolina faces the prospect of a vote for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in 2012, and local faith leaders are speaking out against the potential gay marriage ban.

Equality NC held a press conference to highlight the views of five faith leaders: Rev. Anthony Spearman, pastor of Clinton Tabernacle AME Zion Church, Rev. Stephen Shoemaker, from Charlotte’s Myers Park Baptist, Rev. Dr. Amy Laura Hall, ordained elder at United Methodist Church in Durham, Ari Margoils, assistant rabbi at Temple Beth Or in Raleigh, and Bishop Tonyia Rawls of Unity Fellowship Church in Charlotte.
