Lena Waithe Offers Fans a Month of Free Showtime to Watch Her New Show ‘The Chi’
Lena Waithe made history as the first black woman to win an Emmy for TV writing for Master of None. Her new show The Chi has been heralded as one of the greatest new additions to the small screen this winter. But many of her fans haven’t been able to watch The Chi because they don’t have subscriptions to Showtime. Well, Waithe is making the premium channel accessible to all by giving away a 30-day free Showtime trial so her fans and followers (and you) can watch.
How awesome is that?
She wrote on Instagram: “Some of y’all have hit me up and said ‘Yo, sis – the way my bank account is set up I can’t afford SHOWTIME right now.’ Well I grew up in a single parent household so I understand. I got your back. I would never do you the way Kevin did Brandon.”
All you have to do is head here and use the promo code “LENA” at checkout sometime before Jan. 31, 2018 to get your free Showtime.
The Chi follows a group of strangers whose lives become intertwined by coincidence. The series, described as “a powerful coming-of-age drama series about an interconnected group of working-class African-Americans on Chicago’s volatile south side,” permiered Jan. 7.
Common also serves as an executive producer, and the show stars Alex Hibbert, the young boy in Moonlight, as well as Straight Outta Compton’s Jason Mitchell and Yolanda Ross from The Get Down.
On this project, Waithe explained, “It’s a huge accomplishment for me to have my first show that’s created by me and written by me, and for it to be a drama is also kinda fun. It gives people a broader sense of who I am and my voice. I feel like they got an idea of who I am, and I think The Chi will kind of surprise them a little bit.”
Other shows you’ll be able to binge with your month of free Showtime include Shameless, Homeland, SMILF, Dexter, The L Word, Queer as Folk, Weeds and United States of Tara.
