How do I use video chat?

Video Chat allows you to connect face-to-face with another user on Hornet. You can choose to enable or disable your camera and microphone at any time during the conversation.

To start a video chat, open a chat with another user and tap the video camera icon at the top right corner of the chat screen. The other user will receive a call notification and can choose to accept or decline. Once connected, both of you can continue chatting while seeing each other through video.

Please note that you can only video chat with users you have previously chatted with. This means you need to send at least one message to that user and receive at least one message from that user before initiating a video chat.

We strive to make video chat as safe as possible by taking the following measures:

  • No screen recordings or screenshots are possible during video chat.
  • No moderation of video chats. One-on-one video chats are completely private between you and the other user. Hornet does not moderate video chats in any way.

If you want to block video chats from a specific person, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to that person’s profile.
  2. Tap the (three‑dot) icon in the upper‑right corner.
  3. In the menu, select Block video calls from ….

If you want to block video chats from everyone, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Profile and tap the (three‑dot) icon in the upper‑right corner.
  2. In the menu, select Video Chat.
  3. Turn on Block all incoming video chats.

If you want to restore the ability for a specific user to start a video chat with you, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Profile and tap the (three‑dot) icon in the upper‑right corner.
  2. In the menu, select Video Chat.
  3. On the next page, select List of blocked users.
  4. The next window will open a list with all the users to whom you previously restricted the ability to make video chats with you.
  5. Find that user in the list, click on them, and select Unblock in the pop-up window
