It’s no secret we love the Brooklyn duo PWR BTTM. We loved them at SXSW, and their newest video, released last Tuesday, does not disappoint.
“Answer My Text” features lead singer Liv Bruce in their bedroom, telling a sad tale we can all relate to: When you get the number of a cutie at a club, and they take forever to text back. That anxiety is something we’ve all felt. “Did I do something wrong?” “Did they blow me off?” PWR BTTM gets to the heart of that feeling with lines like “My teenage angst will be with me well into my thirties/It always feels like there’s something I don’t know.”
The video is loaded with great imagery — Bruce’s bedroom is great, as are the scenes where they’re bound by duct tape and surrounded with flip phones. And the scene where they’re bound in the back of a moving truck reminds us of one of our favorite Broad City episodes.
“Answer My Text” is the second single from their upcoming album Pageant. The first single was “Big Beautiful Day,” and its waffle-tastic video is also worth the 3 minutes.
Moreso than “Answer My Text,” “Big Beautiful Day” is a closer representation of what PWR BTTM are like as a live band — but if you want to really see what they’re like live, their European tour starts in April, and they come to the States in May. But if you can’t wait, NPR music posted their SXSW 2017 set — a set our own Daniel Villarreal called “the best set of their career”
And if that’s not enough, they’ve also done a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR’s All Songs Considered:
We can’t wait for the rest of the album to come out — but in the meantime, we’ll be listening to “Answer My Text” over and over. No wonder the song is already getting fan art:
