Hornet Releases New ‘Pride Edition’ Version 6.9, Celebrates #PrideWorldwide 2020
May 31, 2020, Los Angeles — Hornet, the world’s premier gay social network with 25 million users globally, announces its ‘Pride Edition’ Version 6.9 timed with Pride Month 2020, including brand-new features and exciting digital programming, all while many people around the world are required to stay home and distance themselves physically.
The month of June has long been special for members of the LGBTQ community, as it’s a time for the world to commemorate Pride Month, in honor of the Stonewall Uprising that sparked a global gay rights movement in 1969. And while the typical ways Pride Month is celebrated globally — with parades, festivals, concerts and other large-scale events — are not available due to the world’s current health concerns, the month of June will still offer exciting ways for members of the LGBTQ community to connect with one another, and Hornet remains the most important place for gay men to connect online with their community.
Here’s a look at some of the exciting things Hornet, the world’s premier gay social network, 25 million users strong, has planned for Pride Month 2020:
Hornet will kick off Pride Month on June 1 with #PrideWorldwide, a campaign that will see Hornet users from around the globe flood the app with posts celebrating Pride, showcasing how everyone can celebrate in their own way, even while stuck in #LGBTQuarantine. In-app use of the hashtag will cause the newly unveiled #PrideWorldwide sticker to appear on users’ posts.
On June 4, the social network will host “A Hornet Live Chat About Health & Sex in the Time of COVID-19,” a YouTube Live streaming discussion featuring health experts from Russia, Brazil and Taiwan, about the pandemic’s impact on the well-being and sexuality of gay men around the globe.
Throughout the month of June, the Hornet Feed will present a diverse array of live Pride content. There’s no shortage of compelling virtual events planned across the globe — including virtual Pride festivals, digital drag shows and local Pride livestreams — and Hornet will be highlighting some of the best directly in the feed, allowing users to connect with their broader communities in real time.
Hornet’s push to present live programming will culminate on June 27 with the 24-hour digital event Global Pride, during which Pride organizations from around the world will celebrate with performances and addresses from global public figures and activists. The live event will travel the globe similar to a New Year’s Eve broadcast, allowing all of Hornet’s international user base to tune in during the day.
Hornet’s ‘Pride Edition’ Version 6.9 also adds multiple new features to improve user experience and facilitate connection among the world’s gay men. Not only has Hornet added to its collection of colorful Pride emoji that can be used in chat, but a “Who Checked You Out?” feature in the app now gives users a peek at guys who viewed their profile, making Pride Month the perfect time to reach out and connect with your community on Hornet, even when those beloved Pride events are canceled.
Founded in 2011, Hornet is the world’s premier gay social network. With over 25 million users globally, the Hornet mission is to inspire and empower gay men to create a global, connected community that moves society forward. Powered by cutting-edge technology, Hornet has become the number one gay app in markets like France, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, and Taiwan, and is rapidly expanding its sizable user base in the United States.
