Health Ambassador

Community Program

About

A Health Ambassador is someone who is willing to engage in conversations around sexual and mental health and share their lived experience. The badge that you see in a Health Ambassador's profile is an invitation to chat with them about all sorts of health-related topics that impact our lives. Health Ambassadors help foster a community that is knowledgeable, connected and empowered. A Hornet Health Ambassador is:
  • Informative
  • Affirming
  • Non-judgmental
  • Knowledgeable about sexual and mental health
Become a Health Ambassador! Do you have experience around HIV or STI testing, living with HIV, or other topics related to sexual health? Have you ever struggled from a mental condition, such as depression, anxiety, and/or addiction to substance use and want to share your experience? Health Ambassadors receive a badge on their profile that indicates they are health advocates who are happy to engage in conversations regarding topics including but not limited to testing, PrEP, stigma, HIV, depression and/or anxiety. Health Ambassadors are expected to help people in real time and make a positive impact on the community. The goal of your participation would be to reduce the isolation that many users feel, as well as reduce stigma, associated with HIV, PrEP and/or a mental health condition, by allowing people to speak openly and honestly about these topics. Participation in the Health Ambassador program is entirely voluntary and can be terminated at any time. If a Health Ambassador is reported to customer support as behaving inappropriately, they will be removed from the program. Upon entering the program, Health Ambassadors will be requested to agree and follow our code of conduct. We also request that ambassadors participate in initial health education activities to increase their knowledge and experience around gay men’s health. We will never ask Health Ambassadors to reveal the details of their conversations, but we will occasionally inquire about the quality of the interactions in an effort to evaluate and improve the program. Health Ambassadors function as peers speaking about their own lived experience and do not provide professional medical advice. Health Ambassadors are expected to follow a code of conduct and treat their peers with respect. Code of Conduct A Hornet Health Ambassador is:
  • Sex-positive
  • Affirming
  • Non-judgmental
  • Offers lived experience, not expert advice
  • Commits to be understanding to different experiences and perspectives
  • Creates a safe and harassment-free space
