For four days in New Orleans, Louisiana, from July 25–28, attendees of the Equality Federation Leadership Conference will attend workshops, networking opportunities and talks from inspiring speakers, all devoted to learning how to best be a leader in the LGBTQ community.
The Equality Federation is devoted to LGBTQ rights in all realms and has been involved in fighting for workplace equality and working to defeat bathroom bills throughout the country. The Leadership Conference is a good way for individuals to come together and discuss how to best deal with issues both local and national.
While the full schedule for this year’s Equality Federation Leadership Conference hasn’t yet been released, in the past workshops and plenaries have delved into racial equality, trans issues, legislative analysis and much more. And of course there will be time for fun as well, with meals and parties providing ample opportunities for networking.
Last year’s conference in Alexandria, Virginia, was Equality Federation’s most well-attended, and it’s expected that this year’s conference, co-hosted with the local organization Forum for Equality, will see even more.
This year’s move to New Orleans isn’t just to see the sights of the Big Easy. As Equality Federation Executive Director Rebecca Isaacs says, “The leadership of LGBTQ Southerners, in the face of such strong opposition, has far-too-often gone overlooked and uncelebrated.”
It’s been a tough year for LGBTQ equality, and the Trump Administration isn’t making things any easier. Isaacs says, “The current administration is shaping up to be the most anti-LGBTQ in history, and at the state level we faced dozens of discriminatory policy proposals. Thankfully, more people than ever recognize that LGBTQ people should be able to live free from discrimination wherever they live.”
This Leadership Conference will help people across the country figure out how best to fight the anti-LGBTQ policies of Donald Trump. The Equality Federation is an essential component of 44 state-level equality organizations. With their help, we can coordinate and fight Trump and the Republican Party’s war against us.
The Equality Federation Leadership Conference takes place July 25-28 at the Le Méridien Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. Head here for more info.
