A First for Gay Apps: Hornet to Launch Video in Feed

Be first to like this.

In partnership with the San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival Frameline, Hornet, the digital home of 25 million gay men worldwide, is the first to bring curated LGBTQ video content into a gay app feed. Hornet has taken yet another step in allowing queer men to easily connect to their community, anytime and anywhere. By including content in the user experience, Hornet makes it fun and easy for guys to showcase their true selves and thus make more meaningful, interest-based connections.

Frameline43 opens June 20, 2019, with a screening of the film Vita & Virginia and will continue for 11 days, celebrating LGBTQ film with 60,000 attendees in the Bay Area. It’s the world’s largest LGBTQ film exhibition event and longest running LGBTQ film festival, and this year’s slate includes 59 films screening for the first time in the United States, 22 world premieres and eight international premieres.

This partnership between Hornet and Frameline kicks off a new chapter for the gay app, which now allows users to connect over LGBTQ video content right in the feed. Those videos will take the form of film trailers, music videos, web series and more, plus year-round content — including full-length films — curated alongside Frameline.

“We are very excited to partner with Hornet to execute on Frameline’s mission to change the world through the power of queer cinema,” says Frances Walles, Executive Director at Frameline. “What we have pioneered in the Bay Area will now have a truly global reach and will become available year round.”

“While we have been a longtime partner of Frameline, now we’re able to bring its wonderful video content to all the people who can’t make it to the San Francisco Bay Area this month,” says Christof Wittig, Hornet’s founder and CEO. “Hornet is the first to curate high-quality LGBTQ content into a gay app to allow people to express themselves with all their interests andf full selves.”

Hornet also curates content from select partners like Pride Media, publisher of acclaimed outlets like The Advocate and OUT; LGBTQ-owned network Q Digital, which publishes LGBTQ Nation, Queerty and GayCities; digital publishers PinkNews and Gay Star News; Têtu, France’s leading digital gay publication; and HuffPost Brasil.

Hornet users can also submit their own videos to be featured on Hornet, particularly if they align with the Hornet Creators Playbook. Hornet moderates such submissions and curates content that will allow users to genuinely connect with the community in addition to being fun and engaging.

Hornet is available in Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store for immediate download.
