Hornet Partners With the World’s Leading LGBTQ Publishers to Bring Even More Top Content to Users
LOS ANGELES, June 4, 2019 — Hornet, the world’s premier gay social network with 25 million users worldwide, is once again shifting the idea of what a ‘gay app’ can be: In addition to the original content Hornet publishes across several languages, now the app also gathers content from the world’s most renowned LGBTQ publishers and places it directly in users’ hands.
Hornet is now working with select media partners to curate an array of timely, engaging articles across multiple languages directly in the app. Story content inside Hornet is now more expansive and robust than ever, including everything from celebrity interviews and travel stories to breaking international news and politics.
Among Hornet’s initial slate of select media partners are Pride Media, which publishes acclaimed American outlets The Advocate, OUT and various online properties; LGBTQ-owned network Q Digital, which publishes LGBTQ Nation, Queerty and GayCities; U.K.-based digital publishers PinkNews and Gay Star News; Têtu, the leading digital gay publication of France; and HuffPost Brasil, which publishes news and lifestyle pieces in Portuguese.
The roster of select media partners continues to grow.
“We at Pride Media know ‘good’ content must always have a home. Hornet has done an incredible job of not only creating a world-class app for queer people through their recent redesign, but they’ve also created a new digital space that will now serve as an equally incredible new home for our beloved magazines,” says Orlando Reece, CEO of Pride Media.
Hornet’s relationship with these select media partners further cements the app as the world’s leading gay social network. More than 60% of Hornet’s user base currently engages with content inside the app, predominantly on the home feed, where guys can like, comment, share and post content themselves. That content includes Instagram-like photo posts, and articles — written by Hornet’s own editorial team and, now, an exhaustive list of top LGBTQ publishers as well.
The presence of content inside Hornet shifts the focus of connecting with other gay men away from their physical proximity, features or stats, which were the hallmarks of the first generation of gay apps.
“I’m thrilled that Hornet is able to put the world’s leading LGBTQ publishers front-and-center before our international user base,” says Hornet’s Executive Editor, Stephan Horbelt. “There’s so much quality content being produced for LGBTQ audiences in 2019, and I couldn’t be more excited to help bring eyeballs to that much-needed reporting.”
Since 2016, Hornet has taken the lead in enabling gay men to discover who and what to know in the influential and culture-leading gay community. The app’s new path of aggregating third-party content expands on the ability of Hornet users to connect over shared interests, surfaced through content and served up in a personalized feed.
