The app’s $1 million crowdfunding raise has allowed for fast-tracked release of the much-requested Android version

West Hollywood, Calif., Dec. 9, 2022 — SPACES, the first app to provide an online safe space for the entire LGBTQ+ spectrum by organizing the community around shared interests in a group-chat format, is rapidly expanding. The app is now officially available to users of Android devices.

Today’s release was made possible due to SPACES’ recent crowdfunded SAFE raise, during which more than 100 investors came together to invest $1 million in the creation of a much-needed safe space for the LGBTQ+ community.

Now, millions of queer Android users the world over will be able to find and build digital group-chat communities around the culture, entertainment and interests they share in common. Each Space in the app is a micro-community for wide-ranging and specific slices of the LGBTQ+ community — gaymers, the Bear community, queer Star Wars fans, trans filmmakers, pet owners and many more. SPACES makes discovery easy, so new users can readily find and join the communities that matter to them, while quickly connecting with other queer people who share their interests.

In order to fast-track Android availability — specifically for pre-existing communities like the well-known LGBTQ+ podcasts, organizations, sports teams and fandom groups already found in the app — SPACES for Android Version 0.8 will be shipped with a limited feature set. Android users will be able to find and join Spaces, with more elaborate features to be shipped in quick succession.

“To all the members of our LGBTQ+ community who have been clamoring for an Android version of SPACES … we heard you!” says Christof Wittig, CEO of Queer Spaces Inc. “We’re so excited to welcome Android users into the lively community of LGBTQ+ users already on SPACES, and to see all the existing communities currently in the app expand with new members. More than anything, we’re excited to grant queer Android users a platform that cares about their safety and well-being, something more important than ever as the heteronormative social platforms show us that’s no concern of theirs.”
