Los Angeles, Calif., Jan. 21, 2021 — One hundred days since Hornet announced the launch of Version 7 with ephemeral video stories, the world’s gay social network has surpassed 50 million in-app video views. This latest advancement in redefining the gay app category has proven to be popular among the gay men on Hornet, who are now able to connect with their community anytime, anywhere — in a whole new way.

Since October 2020, more than 1 million Hornet users have embraced these in-app videos, which encompass the entire spectrum of gay life. Video stories span the gamut from humorous and flirtatious displays to more serious musings on a life disrupted by COVID. Hornet users around the world have posted short videos documenting in real-time local culture and events, while others offer mental health advice and share their at-home workout regimens.

“LGBTQ influencers now have an important new channel to reach their audiences, without the need to adhere to a heteronormative world,” says Christof Wittig, Hornet’s founder and CEO. “Building on the affirmative positive power of our inclusive community, Hornet thrives to eradicate hate and discrimination from our digital lives.”

Users who post in-app video stories on Hornet are guaranteed an interested, engaged audience, as the average video is watched more than 500 times. And unlike other gay platforms, the Hornet audience spans language and geographic boundaries.

Hornet still has much in store for this new format for self-expression and community engagement, with new features and announcements planned in the near future.

Hornet Version 7 is currently available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
