WEST HOLLYWOOD, June 15, 2022 — Hornet Networks today announces that 100 days after the iOS launch of SPACES, the new group chat app for queer communities, the platform has seen total in-app activities — including profiles created, messages sent, and Space creations — surpass 1.5 million, indicating the LGBTQ+ community is clearly seeking a new platform where it feels safe and able to truly express itself.

Since the release of SPACES Version 1.0 on March 1, 2022, users have engaged in more than 30,000 in-app chats and have opened individual Spaces nearly 140,000 times. More than 600 Spaces already exist inside the app today, each one a unique community built on shared passions and interests, from local sports leagues to worldwide fandoms, plus some of the most popular queer podcasts in production today.

And as a signifier of SPACES’ user diversity, in the past 100 days app downloads and the creation of individual Spaces have come from users representing every letter of the LGBTQ+ acronym. That’s the true potential of SPACES: To be the first successful social app dedicated to creating a lively, safe platform for the entirety of the queer community.

That diversity in users and in-app Spaces was also called out by Apple’s editorial team, when the App Store featured SPACES as “App of the Day” during the month of June. The App Store’s feature specifically draws attention to “the liveliness of the app’s Spaces.”

“We’re thrilled to provide the LGBTQ+ community with a platform that does a great job of building and bringing together various segments of the queer community, while at the same time creating a place where they feel safe and able to be their entire selves,” says Christof Wittig, CEO and co-founder of Hornet Networks. “And we’re even more thrilled that the app has been so well-received within its first 100 days.”

“I’m absolutely in love with this app and the positive inclusivity it brings. I really needed this,” says Corbin, a new SPACES user who is a queer software developer based out of Alaska and who found the app through our feature in the App Store. “Since I joined SPACES, the experience has been a blast. Meeting people within my own community has been so transformative.”
