Pearl Thinks He’s Banned From Any Future ‘All Stars’ Seasons for Criticizing RuPaul

Today, Pearl, one of the middling queens from Season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, said in a seven-minute video that a producer of the reality TV competition called him and said he wouldn’t be invited to participate in any future installments of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars because of a recent interview in which Pearl revealed a disappointing conversation he had with the show’s legendary host. if his claim is true, the Pearl video could reveal just how intolerant the show is to its past contestants criticizing it.

While appearing on last week’s episode of Johnny McGovern’s web-based talk show Hey Qween, Pearl said that he gushed to RuPaul off-camera about how excited he was to finally work with one of his idols.

“We were filming a segment, just kind of chatting, banter whatever together,” Pearl told McGovern. And then the camera went down for a moment, and I turned to RuPaul and I said, ‘Oh my god. I just want to thank you so much. It is such an honor to be here, such a pleasure to meet you. You have no idea’ … Just giving her … everything I wanted to say to her.”

Then, Pearl says, “She turned to me, and she said, ‘Nothing you say matters unless that camera is rolling,’ And that broke my spirit. And that is the reason why I had one foot in, one foot out the entire time on that show…. In that moment, it was so heartbreaking because I idolized her, worshipped her, and I just felt that it was so disrespectful…. Like how could you say that to somebody that is just obsessed with you?”

Here is the Pearl video in which he speaks to Johnny McGovern:

Then yesterday, Pearl released a second video entitled, “Nothing You Say Matters Unless the Cameras are Rolling.” In the video, Pearl says the headlines over his Hey Qween interview are exaggerated and should be taken with a grain of salt.

He says his interview on Hey Qween was simply trying to open up about an incident that affected his behavior on the show, but he wasn’t trying to “drag,” insult or expose RuPaul. he also said he hoped his interview would let future contestants know what to expect.

A big reveal that he mentioned during the clip was his claims that a producer of the show called him after the interview aired and said that he wasn’t invited to participate in any future All Stars seasons.

He adds that his run-in with RuPaul wasn’t the only unpleasant incident he experienced on the show and that RuPaul mistreated other people on the show. At that point, he says a producer on the show called him and told him he’d never be invited to participate in a future All Stars.

He says he never expected to appear in a future installment of All Stars, but he disavows the idea that he would never have amounted to anything without Drag Race or that he’s “biting the hand that feeds him,” saying that he doesn’t have to live up to anyone’s standard of how a drag queen is expected to act.
