No judgment if you’ve never heard of Peter Nyong’o (he goes by “Junior”), actress Lupita Nyong’o’s brother. But he does have nearly 30,000 followers on Instagram, so get with the program!
He’s ridiculously come under fire for his genderqueer fashion choices at an all-day “music, food & fashion” festival called Blankets & Wine that took place in Nairobi, Kenya, two weeks ago. When Peter Nyong’o posted an image of himself at the 10th annual festival — sporting an ankle-length maxi dress — certain African outlets came for him and his fashun-wearing ways.
A blogpost by a site called AllAfrica wrote a piece calling out “his peculiar sense of fashion” and noting that back in 2017 at the Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiere (sister Lupita is part of the franchise) he wore a sarong and nose ring.
Well, Lupita Nyong’o’s brother isn’t one to just sit back and take criticism over his genderqueer style choices, responding to the AllAfrica post, entitled “Lupita’s Brother Thinks He Looks Good in Dresses” by responding on Twitter, “Lol. I don’t ‘think’ … I know.”
Peter Nyong’o also had choice words for an Insta follower who’d messaged him about the dress:
Follower: Bro what’s up with the dress?
Peter Nyong’o: Uko na shida? [roughly translates to “Is there a problem?”]
Follower: Nah bro just wanna know the thought process behind it
Peter Nyong’o: There is no thought process my G. If a piece of clothing looks good it looks good.
Here’s the post in question, featuring Peter Nyong’o at a music festival wearing a dress:

@blanketsandwine yesterday was a whole entire wave of badassery. @muthonidrummerqueen it's utterly phenomenal what you have achieved in the past 10 Years. Thank you Sensei for your leadership in taking this music thing to otherworldly levels! In the words of another Sensei @heyheyblinkybill "MUNGU HALALI!" 📸: @kimtydennis #10yearsof
Nyong’o later tweeted out a meme with the text “Gendered clothing is a myth.”

So now you really have no reason not to follow Peter Nyong’o on social media, particularly on Insta where he shares a lot of his sartorial choices (all of which look pretty damn amazing, we gotta say). And while he’s hardly the only guy who can pull off a dress, he’s well on his way to becoming a style icon.
