Update: Uber and Seattle police are questioning whether this accident actually happened. (The original story is below.)

Car accidents are terrifying. The feeling in the pit of your stomach as you see the other car coming at you and know it’s too late. The sound of metal hitting metal. Even if you make it out safely, it’ll stay with you. RuPaul’s Drag Race alum and Seattle drag legend Robbie Turner luckily passed out during his recent accident and doesn’t remember it. Unfortunately, his Uber driver wasn’t so lucky and was killed in the Robbie Turner car accident after his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver.

Turner (real name Jeremy Baird) was coming home from his April 14 show at Queer Bar, a Seattle venue that often hosts drag queens. After he came to, he posted a series of tweets. Turner said:

I just woke up. I’ve been in a car accident. I didn’t recollect it. I’m not certain what happened. My driver did not survive. I’m home with barely a scratch, but when I was informed of what actually happened, my closest family and friends came to mind. Wear a seatbelt. I did.

Last night on my way home my Uber was struck by a drunk driver. I closed my eyes briefly & it happened. I heard it, but hit my head and it was over. They ran tests at the hospital, but outside of my shoulder feeling jammed and my right eye hurting, I only have a bruise. Grateful.

Sometimes, not often enough, we reflect upon the good things and those thoughts center around those we love I think about those people who mean so much to me and for so many years have made me so very happy and I count the times I’ve forgotten to say “Thank you,” and just how much I love them.

It probably doesn’t need to be said, but if there’s anything we can learn from the Robbie Turner car accident it’s this: Don’t drink and drive.

How scary is the Robbie Turner car accident? Have you ever been involved in an accident caused by a drunk driver? Let us know in the comments.
