In Damned #1, you’ll see something never before seen: Batman’s penis. That’s right, in one scene Batman has to strip down, and though it’s shrouded in shadows, you can clearly see the Bat-dong, answering one of the biggest fanboy questions out there: Is Batman circumcised?

Damned #1 is the first issue of a new three-comic miniseries from DC’s Black Label imprint. Black Label is a more adult-oriented imprint that still focuses on the stars of the DC staple, like Bats, Superman and Wonder Woman. (DC’s other mature imprint, Vertigo, generally focuses on its own characters, or lesser-known DC characters like Swamp Thing or the Doom Patrol.)

The Damned series focuses on Batman (and Batman’s penis) as he suffers amnesia but must solve the Joker’s murder, so he recruits occult detective John Constantine to help. The two characters explore Gotham’s supernatural side to solve the murder and clear Batman’s name.

Damned is written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Lee Bermejo, and Damned #1 is out in comic shops today. The new series is a “spiritual sequel” to Azzarello and Bermejo’s 2008 graphic novel Joker, which delved into the criminal clown’s demented psyche.

Though we don’t know if we’ll be able to see Batman’s penis in any of the other issues, we might have other opportunities to see other heroes‘ super-junk. The Black Label series is also launching a darker take on Superman called Year One by Frank Miller and John Romita, Jr., and another Batman title called Last Knight on Earth by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo, plus two Wonder Woman titles.

That said, we’re most excited for The Other History of the DC Universe by John Ridley, director of 12 Years a Slave, a literary series looking at “iconic DC moments and charting sociopolitical gains through the perspectives of DC Super Heroes … from traditionally disenfranchised groups.”

Are you going to buy Damned #1 to have Batman’s penis on your shelf?
