‘I Got Something to Say’: Did Pink Just Come Out in the New Video For ‘Secrets’?
The new Pink video sees the pop superstar dancing seductively with another woman and singing “there’s a lot that you don’t know” about her. So is “Secrets” Pink’s unofficial coming out video? And if so, what’s she coming out as?
The video also sees two men grinding against each other against a graffiti-covered wall.
In the song, the fourth single off Beautiful Trauma, Pink sings, “Put it in the closet / Lock the doors / I’m wondering which one is worse / Is it mine or is it yours?”
This new Pink video isn’t the first to play with gender and sexuality. Her video for “Beautiful Trauma” saw the 38-year-old singer and Channing Tatum playing a straight-laced suburban couple who reveal they’re into crossdressing and BDSM. The clip for “What About Us” featured a gay couple fighting over their relationship in choreographed movements.
Pink has faced rumors about her sexuality almost since the beginning of her career, though she’s never been fazed by them. In 2012 she told the Advocate that when she first moved to L.A. she was “an honorary lesbian.”
“I wasn’t gay, but all my girlfriends were,” Pink said, adding that she denied a tabloid claim she was bisexual “because that wasn’t my truth, and I like truth. I like absolute truth.”
More recently, the “What About Us?” singer has said she doesn’t really like labels: “I feel like people are just less inclined to be labeled now, which I really like,” she told The Guardian. “That’s where I was always coming from. Just leave it alone. I just wanna live my life. I don’t need you to put me in a box or to figure me out or to figure out what I am. Cos I don’t know yet … and I never say never.”
A staunch advocate for LGBT rights, Pink has been married to motorcyclist Carey Hart since 2006, though the two have had their ups and downs over the years.
“There are moments where I look at [Carey] and he is the most thoughtful, logical, constant … he’s like a rock. He’s a good man. He’s a good dad,” she told the Guardian. “And then I’ll look at him and go, I’ve never liked you. There’s nothing I like about you. We have nothing in common. I don’t like any of the shit you like. I don’t ever wanna see you again.”
She admitted being a parent and a music icon has been taxing on their romantic life, too.
“You’ll go through times when you haven’t had sex in a year. Is this bed death? Is this the end of it? Do I want him? Does he want me?” she added. “Monogamy is work! But you do the work and it’s good again.”
