With films and TV shows like Bohemian Rhapsody, Can You Ever Forgive Me?, Pose and The Assassination of Gianni Versace nominated for awards at the 2019 Golden Globes, this year’s ceremony is shaping up to be one of the queerest yet. (And, yes, it does seem like we say that every year about the Globes and Oscars, which is a great thing!)

Among the queer actors and artists nominated this year are Lucas Hedges, Best Actor in Boy Erased; Billy Porter, Best Actor in a TV Series in PoseRyan Murphy, Pose and The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime StoryTroye Sivan, Best Original Song for his track “Revelation” in Boy Erased; and Lady Gaga, Best Actress in A Star Is Born and for her song “Shallow” from the same.

Here’s what these queer actors and artists had to say about their 2019 Golden Globes nominations.

Also, we should mention that another of the queer actors who was nominated, Ben Whishaw for A Very English Scandal, unfortunately (or fortunately) stays the hell away from social media, so we don’t have a response for him. We’re sure he’s thrilled!

1. Lucas Hedges

“Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for this nomination, which I proudly share with the LGBTQIA community as well as with Joel Edgerton, Nicole Kidman, Russell Crowe, the rest of the cast and crew, and most of all, with Garrard [Conley, who wrote the novel]. I was honored to be a part of this story which will hopefully one day help put an end to conversion therapy in the United States where it is currently still legal in 36 states.”

2. Billy Porter

“Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for your consideration. I am so grateful to have lived long enough to see this day. LGBTQ people of color have always been here — and now we’re front and center. Praise the LORD!!!”

3. Ryan Murphy

“Thank you so much to The Hollywood Foreign Press for all of the amazing GG love today. So thrilled for everyone involved in VERSACE and POSE … both groundbreakers, both projects I am so so proud of. Darren [Criss]! Billy [Porter]! Edgar [Ramirez]! Penelope [Cruz]! So much to celebrate, and I am very grateful.”

4. Troye Sivan

“Writing ‘Revelation’ for Boy Erased was an incredible honor for all of us. The song echoes the film’s message that love is love, and that not only is there no way to change who you love, but there is no reason to change. We’re thrilled that the HFPA and Golden Globes heard that in our song and are humbled by this nomination.”

5. Lady Gaga

“I’m so grateful for all the nominations for A Star Is Born today! The film has truly been a passion project for everyone involved and we’ve all become a family. I couldn’t be more happy to see Bradley recognized for his incredible vision and performance. And for the recognition for my songwriting collaboration with the amazing Mark [Ronson], Anthony and Andrew for ‘Shallow.’ And I can’t believe I’m nominated as best actress at the Golden Globes for a film! I am so appreciative of the HFPA’s support. Thank you so much.”
