If this isn’t one of the strangest things you’ve read today, what are you reading?! A judge named John W. Hallett in Jefferson County, New York, announced that he’s resigning from office today after a formal complaint was lodged against him for some highly inappropriate, homophobic comments involving actor Viggo Mortensen of all people.

HUH?

According to the complaint, Hallett told an attorney he should get a hotel room and perform oral sex on the Hollywood actor. Why on earth would anyone, let alone a judge, utter those words?

LET’S BACK UP.

This all went down last January, according to TMZ, while Judge Hallett was overseeing a case involving a lawyer who was promoting a film festival about Viggo Mortensen. According to the complaint, the judge said the film festival was “about the gayest thing I have ever heard” and then went on to say, “You and Viggo Mortensen should get a hotel room and suck each other’s dicks.”

WHAT.

The judge’s condescending behavior apparently didn’t end there, either, as five months later the same attorney claims the judge made the ol’ “hand-to-mouth gesture” connoting a blowjob (seriously, this judge really has a thing for oral) and “patted the attorney lightly on the cheek,” saying, “There, there, little boy.”

I MEAN.

Judge John W. Hallett

Following the attorney’s complaint, TMZ is saying the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct opened an investigation into the judge’s behavior, and so Judge Hallett is attempting to beat them to the punch by resigning before a ruling is handed down. Apparently Hallett is resigning on New Year’s Eve and is saying he’ll never again seek judicial office.

SMART.

As far as we know, there’s been no comment from Viggo Mortensen, whose film Green Book, also starring Mahershala Ali, hit American theaters late last month. We can’t say we blame him, as Mortensen is currently dealing with a different type of drama altogether.

Can you believe a judge said that about Viggo Mortensen?
