Week In Review, Aug. 31, 2018: Eminem’s Still Homophobic, Naked Calendar Boys, Jackée vs. Eureka

Be first to like this.

In the Week in Review, we look at 10 of the week’s top stories that you may have missed. In this week’s edition, we look at Eminem’s surprise new album and the unsurprising old homophobia on it. We also have the scoop on the new MEAT calendar and the weirdest Twitter beef of 2018 — or, at least, the weirdest one that doesn’t involve the President.

Here are 10 of the week’s top stories:

1. Eminem, You’re Canceled: In 2018, the Rapper Still Thinks It’s OK to Be a Homophobic Prick

Today saw Eminem, 45, surprise-drop his 10th studio album Kamikaze. While fans of the irreverent rapper may be rejoicing, the Eminem Kamikaze album includes a song entitled “Fall” that contains a homophobic insult towards openly queer rapper Tyler the Creator. Ugh. Really, Eminem?

2. 12 ‘Regular’ Guys Embrace Body Positivity in the Buff for the New ‘Meat’ Naked Calendar

Tired of body shaming he saw in the gay community, photographer Adrian Lourie began celebrating “ordinary” gay men by taking their pictures and publishing them in MEAT, a London-based gay pinup fanzine. We’ve interviewed Lourie before but we’re excited for the new 2019 MEAT Naked calendar.

3. The Pope to Families of Gay Kids: ‘Don’t Disown Them, Opt for Conversion Therapy’

While meeting with Ireland’s openly gay prime minister, Pope Francis told parents not to condemn or kick out their gay kids. While that’s a great message, he also said that if parents notice their child exhibits signs of homosexuality during childhood, “there is a lot that can be done through psychiatry.” It sounds like he’s endorsing subjecting minors to so-called ex-gay conversion therapy, something that’s now illegal in 25% of the United States.

4. The Beginning of the End Is Here for Milo, Who Has Turned Against His Supporters

Between being dropped by his book publisher and lawyers, getting shouted out of a New York City bar for being a Nazi and getting booted from a political conference just last week, toxic gay alt-right douchebag Milo Yiannopoulos has had a rocky couple of years. So it’s perhaps understandable why Yiannopoulos blew up at his Facebook followers this past weekend for not being more supportive of him.

5. Escort Given Death Sentence in Killing of Gay Florida Couple: ‘Homosexuals Are a Disgrace to Mankind’

An escort found guilty of killing a gay couple in Florida has been handed a death sentence. In January, Peter Avsenew was convicted of first-degree murder in conjunction with the 2010 killing of Kevin Adams and Steven Powell. The couple was discovered shot to death and wrapped in blankets in their Wilton Manors home the day after Christmas. As the victims’ families left the courthouse, Avsenew gave them the finger.

6. The Slap Heard ’Round Mykonos: Watch These Muscle Queens ‘Fight’ During a Circuit Party

Right now at this very moment, the XLSIOR Festival is happening on the Greek island of Mykonos. It’s a week-long event full of beach parties and international DJs. It’s also marketed as an event where the “crème de la crème” of the gay world can enjoy each other. But from the looks of it, the cream has started to curdle as a recent video shows an XLSIOR Festival fight breaking out among several of its hunky attendees.

8. The Weirdest Beef of 2018 Is Officially Jackée Harry Hashing It Out With Eureka O’Hara

American comedic actress Jackée Harry has apparently got some Twitter beef with Eureka, one of the top three finalists from Season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. When Eureka complimented Harry’s Twitter message encouraging authenticity, Harry replied with a curt “Wasn’t nobody talking to you.” Harry then proceeded to talk smack, to the apparent delight of Eureka’s Season 10 rival, The Vixen, who jumped in to comment. It’s all so delightfully weird.

9. Alex Jones Busted: The Transphobic Infowars Host Has Been Outed as a Trans Porn Consumer

Alex Jones, the hateful host of the far-right conspiracy theory show Infowars (a show which has been banned from most mainstream social media platforms except for Twitter), is also transphobic: he believes that trans people are made up, but yet part of a cyborg plot and that former First Lady Michelle Obama is a trans woman who murdered comedian Joan Rivers. So considering how much anger he stirs up against trans people, it wasn’t at all surprising when his Friday broadcast revealed that he has trans porn on his cell phone.

10. These Pics of Out Actor Kevin McHale Reveal a Newly Ripped Bod

Last March, Kevin McHale — the American actor and singer who famously portrayed Artie Abrams, a student with disabilities, in the Fox musical dramedy series Glee — hinted that he might be gay, something he later confirmed. But unbeknownst to us, he has also recently come out as having gotten in serious shape.
