Remakes Galore and More: What’s Coming to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon in February 2018

You might think that February streaming options might be heavy on the romance — but strangely enough you’d be wrong. Aside from Love Per Square Foot (Netflix, Feb. 14) and Stinky & Dirty Valentine’s Day Special (Amazon Prime, Feb. 13), there’s not a lot of romantic options for you to cuddle in with your sweetie. On the other hand, if you’re looking for remakes, the streaming giants have you covered! (It doesn’t make sense to us, but that’s why they’re running streaming sites, and we’re just writing about them.) We run down our top choices for your February streaming delights, and, as always, the complete list of comings and goings is at the bottom.

 

Remakes for February Streaming

As we said, there’s lots of remakes available for February streaming, from the obscure — like Aeon Flux (Netflix, Feb. 1), a sadly mediocre remake of the brilliant MTV cartoon — to the huge, like Star Trek (Hulu and Amazon, Feb. 14). In the case of Rollerball (Hulu and Amazon, Feb. 1), you’re getting both the original and the new one. Hulu and Amazon are also getting the ’95 remake of the Billy Wilder classic Sabrina (Feb. 1).

Netflix is getting Ocean’s Eleven (Feb. 1), which was originally a rat pack film — though we’re going out on a limb and saying it’s one of the few cases where the remake’s better. (The same day, Netflix is also getting Ocean’s Twelve and Ocean’s Thirteen.) And we end with, perhaps the inverse of Aeon Flux, a movie that became a TV show: the complete run of Parenthood (Feb. 15) comes to Hulu.

 

Other great TV shows and movies to check out

There’s lots of original material that’s great too. The Martin Scorsese classic Goodfellas (Netflix, Feb. 1), Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vols. 1 and 2 (Netflix, Feb. 1) and Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker (Netflix and Hulu, Feb. 1), though of the films that came out yesterday, we’re most jazzed about Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (Netflix, Feb. 1), the deeply underrated John C. Reilly vehicle that parodied the musician biopic — which has some great songs, too.

Other recommendations for February streaming: A Fish Called Wanda (Hulu and Amazon, Feb. 1), The Warriors (Hulu and Amazon, Feb. 1), Broad City: Season 4 (Hulu, Feb. 4) and the return of Queer Eye (Netflix, Feb. 7). But what we’re really, truly excited for is the new film from Magic Mike director Steven Soderbergh, Logan Lucky (Amazon, Feb. 16.)

 

Watch them before they’re gone

Unfortunately, February streaming comes to an end for some titles. On Feb. 5, Netflix is losing two Hannibal Buress comedy specials, the brilliant Hannibal Buress: Animal Furnace, and the uneven Live From Chicago. Netflix is also losing Family Guy (Feb. 14), Burn Notice (Feb. 15) and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room (Feb. 21).

As for Hulu, come Feb. 28, you’ll have to say goodbye to Spaceballs, Saturday Night Fever, Punch Drunk Love and — don’t get too heartbroken — Invasion U.S.A. Missing In Action II: The Beginning.
