Queer Delights for Pride Month: What’s Coming to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon in June 2018
Last year, the big streaming platforms avoided putting much in the way of queer-themed movies and shows for Pride month. (We even hit LGBT-related films hard last month just in case we were in for a repeat.) Thankfully, the honchos at Netflix, Hulu and Amazon realized that queer movies are perfect to release for June streaming. Who knew? Here are a few of our favorites that you won’t want to miss, along with some other great things you can stream this month.
Pride Delights for June Streaming
As we promised, the June streaming selections are pretty queer, and we couldn’t be more pleased. We’re particularly jazzed, of course, about the return of Queer Eye (Netflix, June 15) and Sense8‘s series finale (Netflix, June 8). But there’s lots of other options too; there’s Brokeback Mountain (Hulu, June 1) and the complete first two seasons of Viceland’s Gaycation (Hulu, June 8).
You might also like Alex Strangelove (Netflix, June 8), the new movie about a teen who is trying to court the girl of his dreams when he realizes that he likes boys, too. If you’d like a documentary about a phenomenal gay artist, we highly recommend Tell Them Anything You Want: A Portrait of Maurice Sendak (Hulu, June 15). And while it might not be the classiest film, Leprechaun 5 (Hulu and Amazon, June 1 with the rest of the Leprechaun movies) is one of the few horror films with a queer person of color, even if it’s a drag queen who wants to fuck a leprechaun. Yay?
Finally, though we generally like to keep to the big three streaming platforms, we couldn’t resist mentioning that Filmstruck, the platform from Turner Classic Movies and the Criterion Collection, just got Hedwig and the Angry Inch, one of our very favorite films.
Other great TV shows and movies to check out
Even our section for other great things to check out is at least queer-adjacent! Check out the first animated pansexual on U.S. TV, Rick Sanchez in Rick & Morty: Season 3 (Hulu, June 23). And you really can’t go wrong with GLOW Season 2 (Netflix, June 29).
You’ll also be glad to know about a few blockbusters coming on for June streaming. There’s Thor: Ragnarok (Netflix, June 5), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Netflix, June 26) and the Lord of the Rings trilogy (Hulu, June 1).
Finally, after all that action, if you want to unwind with some comedy, we’re super excited about W. Kamau Bell: Private School Negro (Netflix, June 26). Bell is one of our favorite comedians working today.
Watch them before they’re gone
To everything there is a season, and the season’s over for these films. If you haven’t had a chance to see Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War (Netflix, June 25) yet, you’d better hurry! We’re also saying goodbye to A League of Their Own (Hulu, June 30), Madonna’s Desperately Seeking Susan (Hulu, June 30), the cult-classic Death Becomes Her (Hulu, June 30) and, finally, the Warren Beatty/Faye Dunaway film that redefined cinematic violence, Bonnie & Clyde (Netflix, June 10).
