In His New Video, Jake Shears Is the Leather Daddy of Your Dreams
We’re getting ever closer to the debut of Scissor Sisters‘ Jake Shears solo album. We’ve already got two singles to whet our appetites: “Creep City” and “Sad Song Backwards,” with its adorable homemade animated video. And now, the new Jake Shears video for “Big Bushy Mustache” has us even more excited for Friday’s album release.
“Big Bushy Mustache” is, as you might expect from the title, an ode to a particular type of facial hair — or, as Shears sings, “It takes a bushy mustache to show ’em who you really are.” And the new Jake Shears video is full of mustaches, both real and fake.
The video is both funny — with the dancers doing hilariously “masculine” things like arm wrestling — and sexy. And we have to say, Shears’ look as a sexy leather daddy with an artistic streak will likely take over leather bars this summer…. at least, if there’s any justice in this world.
By the way, if you’re more of a hard rock guy, you’ll be happy to know that Shears isn’t the only queen in the video — there’s also Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age. We’ll have to wait for the album credits to drop to see if Homme is playing on the track, but Shears previously told Rolling Stone he wrote another song on the album, “The Bruiser” for Homme.
Shears said, “[Josh Homme is] like a brother to me and just inspires me to no end. I think he’s an amazing man. And musically, I think he’s one of the best alive.” Shears also dedicated his memoir, Boys Keep Swinging, to Homme and his wife Brody Dalle. Homme returned the favor by tweeting “Big Bushy Mustache” from the official Queens of the Stone Age account, calling it a “Bitchin’ tune from a true brother.”
Jake Shears eponymous debut album is out Friday, Aug. 10.
