Every September the world watches in awe as fashion industry power players come together in New York City for a week of memorable runway shows. Every New York Fashion Week is a showcase, and NYFW 2019 has been no exception, as every designer has truly stepped up their game.

Tom Ford kicked off NYFW 2019 with a star-studded show at the iconic Armory. Ralph Lauren celebrated his 50th anniversary with a lavish fashion presentation at Central Park that included over 100 models. But it wasn’t just the big names that dazzled us, as you’ll see.

With so many amazing events as part of this month’s New York Fashion Week, it was hard to narrow it down to our favorites, but here are what we’re calling the five most memorable shows from NYFW 2019.

The 5 Most Memorable Shows of NYFW 2019:

1. Opening Ceremony

Famous for its innovative athleisure wear, for its NYFW 2019 show Opening Ceremony opted for “full camp,” collaborating with RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 9 winner Sasha Velour on a sartorial extravaganza.

While there were many highlights in the NYFW 2019 collection, the show’s guest models outshone the clothes. From Shea Couleé to Jiggly Caliente, they all looked divine in Opening Ceremony.

2. Gypsy Sport

Though maybe not a household name, Gypsy Sport nevertheless always has a huge presence at NYFW, often combining fashion and politics. For the collection presented at NYFW 2019, Gypsy Sport used almost exclusively sustainable materials as its main fabrics. Not just that, but instead of using models, Gypsy Sport invited non-professionals to walk. It was a wonderful sight to see a size-, gender- and race-inclusive group sashay down the runway.

There was one famous face, however: Madonna‘s daughter, Lourdes Leon, made her runway debut in one of the label’s newest creations.

3. Christian Siriano

As the winner of Project Runway Season 4, Christian Siriano repeatedly shows that he deserved the crown. He’s the first fashion designer to dress Leslie Jones for the red carpet, and his intricate designs always exude femininity and style.

This season saw Siriano step things up a notch, as he featured hunky models sporting sexy, sheer numbers. We were shooketh.

4. Parke and Ronen

Known for their colorful, cheeky swimwear, at NYFW 2019 Parke and Ronen showed us a different side of their label with a vibrant and sunny show.

Several pieces — like color-stripe knits and shorts with wild prints — stand out. And it’s always a nice treat to watch a parade of eye candy strut the runway in fitted briefs, no?

5. Marco Marco

The Marco Marco runway show for NYFW 2019 was groundbreaking in many ways. No wonder the label is practically the king of underwear.

Besides serving up sexy underwear worn as outerwear, it was the very first fashion show to feature an entire cast of trans models and celebrities. From the legendary Dominique Jackson of Pose fame to our personal favorite model, Laith Ashley, they all strutted with pride. (And Hornet even got to go backstage!)
