Binge on the Best New and Old TV Shows Coming to Hulu, Netflix and Amazon This August
August is finally here, and if you’re an outdoorsy type, you probably can’t wait to go down to the beach, swim your heart out and soak up those rays. But if you’re one of the indoor kids, you hate the heat and are busy hiding in your darkened room cursing the sun. Unfortunately, cursing the sun doesn’t take up much time, but what better to fill that time with all the great TV shows and movies that are newly available for August streaming?
TV Favorites for August Streaming
Just because the TV networks are a wasteland of reruns and summer fill-in series doesn’t mean there’s no good TV to watch. Watch the newly announced gay character in Voltron: Legendary Defender (Netflix, Aug. 10). You can also catch up on one of the greatest modern sitcoms, The Good Place, as season 2 (Netflix, Aug. 28) is now available. Check in with The Simpsons creator Matt Groening’s brand new show, Disenchantment (Netflix, Aug. 17). And if you’d like something more serious, you can watch all of the PBS documentary series #MeToo: Now What? (Amazon, Aug. 1).
And if you’re looking for something a little more unexpected, Hulu’s getting the complete season 2 of the horror–comedy anthology Tim & Eric’s Bedtime Stories, (Hulu, Aug. 10). And though it’s sadly probably not coming back, check out the deeply underrated sitcom from Tracey Wigfield and Tina Fey, Great News (Netflix, Aug. 23).
Other great TV shows and movies to check out
Though TV series give you more content, sometimes you want to shake things up with a movie. If you’re afraid of straying too far from TV, though, the cult-classic The Brady Bunch Movie (Hulu, Aug. 1) is available for August streaming. Likewise, there’s the Price Is Right documentary Perfect Bid: The Contestant Who Knew Too Much (Hulu, Aug. 7).
Speaking of documentaries, you might enjoy checking out the critically acclaimed Jiro Dreams of Sushi (Hulu, Aug. 23). Or, since Pussy Riot is in the news again, find out more about them with Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer (Amazon, Aug. 1).
There’s also the sleeper hit, Steven Soderbergh’s The Informant! (Netflix, Aug. 1), critical darlings, No Country for Old Men (Netflix, Aug. 11), The Elephant Man (Hulu and Amazon, Aug. 1) and Mother! (Hulu and Amazon, Aug. 26).
